MERON (VINnews) — On Thursday afternoon, hundreds of Charedi extremist rioters broke into the Tomb of the RASHBI on Mount Meron, forcing police to shut down the entire celebration.

According to officials, extremists tore down the mechitzos dividing the men’s and women’s sections, and they hurled fences to the ground. As a result, police determined that the safety of those inside the compound was threatened.

In response to the violence and upheaval, police halted the bussing of people to the site, and celebrations have been halted.

Officials say that the destruction of safety infrastructure made it impossible to ensure public safety.

Police rescued women and children who were apparently trapped the tomb.

A memorial event for the 45 people who tragically perished on Lag B’Omer last year was scheduled for tonight. Organizers will determine whether the memorial can still be held after consulting with professionals.

I can not believe the foolish, stupid posts on this thread. None of you are safety experts. None of you, I’m sure, had family members who were killed in Meron last year. However you want to twist the government ‘s motivation, attitudes and actions like these KILL PEOPLE! GROW UP!

It looks like the plan was to allow a nice Beyoner lighting and first 3 hours. After that, the plan was to frustrate and provoke all the ticket-holders until they could justify bashing a few heads and closing the place down. So sad that they couldn’t design and implement something workable.

Fortunately, these are not just extremists, we see the same outrage from all spectrums of the orthodox community, Chasidim, Agudha, Sefardim, and so on!
It’s so obvious what the authorities were trying to do here. everyone was hopeful and asked for change,
But they chose to play a power game, without considering the needs of the people celebrating there for years.
Meron is a huge place with many empty fields around and could have easily been made safe to accommodate 100ds of thousands as it was recommended to do, but they had other agendas besides safety, and here are the results: chaos, anger, and frustration without safety!

How dare you blame the police when it was hundreds who broke thru barriers and caused a riot. It was the police who acted to save the women and children.

What’s wrong with some of you ? Is this how to behave at the gravesite of a holy tzaddik ? Nobody forced anybody to come , yet here they’re already blaming police. This is fraudulent propaganda at its worst. You , the organizers are responsible for amenities and bathrooms and food , behave like religious Jews especially on this day and site and not like animals. This is Lag Baomer to you ? You ‘re the guilty and blaming others. We can all see through your brazen shekker

The police are there to protect the ציבור.

Without the police there is anarchy wrought by a bunch of idiots who think they no better.

It’s not an עברה to be an idiot but חילול השם is a very serious עברה.

Anyone who saw the lighting of the 45 candles last night followed by the lighting the light for the Yohrzeit of רשב”י woke up this morning a changed person.

Throughout our lives, particularly at this makom kadosh we must always ask ourselves how Rabi Shimon would want us to act. The Zionists, for the most part, are tinok shenishba. As Rav Mattisyahu Solomon has quoted from a sefer that the reason mashiach hasn’t come throughout this long galus despite the unprecedented amount of Torah being learned and chesed being done, has nothing to do with the irreligious, it has everything to do with the frum b’nei torah. Are we doing what Hashem wants from us? Are we doing it for our self-glory or are we doing it purely for the sake of Hashem?

I welcome everyone’s replies so we can have an open discussion

Here is what is visible from videos and photos:

Many are pushing through barricades to enter bar Yochai’s tomb. Those inside push them back and yell for them to stop. This sort of pushing caused the deaths last year.

Those who pushed in can be seen in photos and videos celebrating after breaking through.

Even worse, some family members of those killed last year were reported being spit on or had objects hurtled at them.

 Report
a few thoughts

  1. there is no question that after last years ” onesh min hashomayim ” change & improvements were nec.
  2. but if you watch the videos carefully , the measures taken to lesten the crowd were way way overkill.. they couldve easily doubled the crowd and it would be nothing compared to last year
  3. the frustration at the end was after hours & hours of patience..
  4. it was painful enough to know that this year the control of such a makom kadosh would be in the hands of the ” frye ” , but the authorities killed it for everyone especially those who followed instructions..
  5. i despise the protests .. rocks etc.. but this time the organizers obviously didnt confer with the insiders and instead relied on analysts

What a misleading headline, the headline should read” after lazy job by the secular to enforce security for Jewish worshippers, they take an even lazier approach and shut down everything”

The shekerr by the Zionist haters is beyond logic. They came , they destroyed the barricades , they caused the desecration on this holy day , yet they deign to fabricate facts a second year in a row.

Just answer one question please.
AFTER the orderly Biyan celebration, which the Rebbe ended earlier than was scheduled in order to allow in the thousands who were waiting to be part of the next group of orderly celebrations, and after the first group followed Police orders and calmly cleared the area for the next group, WHY didn’t the police allow the thousands from the next group to enter and have a peaceful and orderly celebration too?????
THIS is what stirred up all the trouble which followed.

I still question the use of term “extremists”.
“Selfish Idiots” is more appropriate.

Extremist’s is too polite of a word, call them out what they really are, murderous ignorant savages, who need to be locked up either in a penitentiary or a insane asylum for the criminally insane.
These are the same animals who are responsible for last years catastrophe.
Police have warned for years, that the insane overcrowding going on every year is a disaster waiting to happen, and it happened.
Haven’t these savages learned anything from last years disaster.
My question to all the Rabbonim Rebbes Roshe Yeshivas, WHY DONT YOU STOP THIS INSANITY?
Why don’t you tell everyone TO STAY HOME.
Does RASHBI really want this insanity and circus every year, where people put their lives in danger, wouldn’t he want instead that everyone stay home and learn a PEREK MISHNAHOS for his NESHAMA.
Have you noticed that all the real GEDOLIM like the CHAZON ISH, the STEIPLER Rav SCHACH Reb CHAIM etc, they never went to MERON on LAG B’OMER ,for the simple reason that it has turned into nothing but a big circus.and wanted nothing to do with it.
It’s high time for the GEDOLIM to put a stop to this insanity.

Truthfully the funny thing is, the holy Rashbi is not even buried there. Study history and you will see it was first set up as a NER TOMID for Rashbi and his son. The Shul named after Rashbi wanted to honor him with people lighting candles, as we do today. They could not keep fires on in the Shul itself for safety reasons, so they decided to build it in the yard. After searching for years, I finally did find a very old drawing of how this monument looked. It had steps for people to go up to the top and light their candles. Travelers to Israel describe it as the “Monument for Rasbi with the fire burning” but NOT one says they “Prayed” there, as they say at other places. However, over time the myth started that he is buried under the monument that held the Ner Tomid. In addition, history does have some evidence he was laid to rest in one of the large cemetery / caves that many in that time period were buried in. However, we have no idea exactly where all these holy and great people are buried

All these people you call extremists!
Hear something you did not know!
They (yes almost all of them) lived in the Land of Israel before the wicked state took over the Holy Land.
They are fighting against the continued takeover of the abominable state

Wasn’t last year a lesson how we have to have crowd control? how many people do we have to loose or get injured due to uncontrolled crowds?
we all know that the Israeli government want full control on Miron but to cut down fences and security barriers will only achieve disaster chas veshulem.
Its time that all Rabunim and Gedoylim should come out and sign a petition that going to Meron has to be a Kiddish Hashem and NOT turn it into a violent confrontation with the authorities. Of course the way people were treated with hours on NO bathrooms and NO water is totally not accepted, buy bad planning does not allow violent actions. We are supposed to be a nation of ATU BECHARTUNI and showing the world how a pilgrimage turns out to be a Chilil Hashem is a shame for all Jews all over the world.

Charedim who misbehave at Meron should have their Beard and Peyos cut off. Their clothes should be thrown in the fire and sent home in jeans and a T-shirt. Believe me they will act like Angels.
