HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS (AP/VINnews) — In a tragic turn of events, reports indicate that there were Jewish casualties in Monday’s mass shooting in Illinois.

At least six people died and 24 were wounded in a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and officers are searching for a suspect who likely fired on the festivities from a rooftop, police said Monday.

Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill, the incident commander on scene, urged people to shelter in place as authorities search for the suspect.

According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, information was received about Jewish casualties.

No further details were immediately available about the victims.

Highland Park is known for a sizeable Jewish population, and is located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Chicago.
