The owner should be arrested and charged with fraud. Show people that kashrus violaterswill pay.

That’s why people say that its more important to know who the owner is than who the kashrus agency is… But obviously we’ve heard unfortunate stories by reputable people but as a general rule its not a bad barrier and not an easy one either…
On a side note, as soon as the owner was caught buying non kosher meat in the first incident, that should have raised a serious red flag. in my opinion this doesn’t make any sense to me… To out it in perspective, G-D forbid if you see the owner of a kosher restaurant having his hands on non kosher meat, I think anyone would stand far away for that establishment…

I never ate there. But the what really stands out is the line in the letter “…it seems that the products were somehow snuck in during operational hours…” , the OK failed here. Miserablely.
You, as a Hechsher are supposed to prevent that. You lost my trust.

Progress has been made with this letter, but they still haven’t given a proper apology for failing the consumer and what precautions they will take so next time doesn’t happen. I always ate almost all hashgachos, but I certainly will think twice about eating OK in the future do to their complete lack of taking responsibility for this fiasco.

My question is regarding the infamous video showing him loading his car at the wholesale place.
First, who took the video?
Was it someone hired by OK labs to spy on him, or just any person who took it upon themselves and submitted it.
Because it seems that, this was the smoking gun, and so if not for that video, were the OK mashgichim that out of touch to not put 1 + 1 together and figure it out? And this would have gone on forever?

this is a terrible story ,
yet it is impossible for any certification or business of any sort to be 100% correct 100% of the time and thats why halacha has concepts of chazakah & rov
the idea that heads need to roll anytime there is a major mess up is not a torah concept, the idea that someone has to publicly apologize … is a new culture no one owes you more than who they are..( the ok is not bnei brak & u know it)
many yidden would eat in this restaraunt yet others would not why?
there is a understanding between us the customer , the company and hechsher… that each needs to do the proper thing, its unrealistic for anyone to think that any hechsher cant ever be duped..there are yidden that are way more stringent & limit where they eat & what they order..the rest of us “rely” and eat…its more convient and as a regular guy we dont really have a good way of knowing whats better
as an example you go to your supermarket and there re chickens from 6 companies can you list the differences between kj & d elliot?

Rabbosei this is a wake up call for all of us to strengthen our kashrus.
Terrible situation!
Having been very involved in kashrus (not OK) I can tell you this can have happened under most if not all hashgachos. Shulchan Aruch and Poskim establish halachos and guidelines to prevent these situations as much as possible, but the possibility for corruption, lies, and decietful people exists. The safest bet it to eat at home.

Question: Am I understanding this right? Once the video was out there, but it was determined that the owner did not manage to sneak the treif products in, the ok let them re-open (albeit with additional restrictions), but did not let the consumers know at that point that there is a problem and eat there at your own risk?
Not trying to cast blame, and I hope that I’m wrong, but I’m just trying to understand the sequence of events.

Unfortunately this is not the first time a hashgocha doesn’t take any blame for wrongdoings, it’s very simple that if he served non kosher meat it was big amounts, and for the ok to state that it was small amounts is naive at best or misleading at worst,

Thank you OK for clarifying this.
I need to say that seeing Rabbi Kalman Winfield on the board of Rabbis tells me that they are of a very high caliber. Rabbi Weinfeld is a tremendous Talmid Chochom and real Yiras Shomayim.

they literally caught him and released him, just like the bail reform laws.
The OK had him, knew he did something wrong and closed the restaurant, and then reopened it again!

Very dissapointing letter. The OK offers no apology for dissapointing the tzibbur who put their trust in the organization. There is no statement about investigating how such a terrible mess-up was possible, and no mention of reevaluating procedures to make sure this never happens again. To deserve the public’s trust there must be accountability!

2 things I really don’t understand how in the world these rabunim to begin with will give a hechsher to a straight GoYatz that has zero knowledge of Yiddishkeit or kashrut. These hechsher should also be closing down to my opinion
And secondly I’d never eat in a goyish resataurant. Eewww. That’s what comes to use “kosher chazer fiesel “
