NEW YORK (VINnews) — As expected, the New York State Board of Regents has passed the new proposed regulations for private schools in a Monday vote. The vote was unanimous.

The final step before the regulations become law, is a vote by the full board, which will take place Tuesday morning. That vote is expected to approve the regulations as well, as none of the Regents in Monday’s vote displayed any opposition.

The new regulations would require that Yeshivos either have an approved Regents program, or be subject to a review by the local school authority. Passing the regulations would mean that students attending a school not meeting these standards can be legally considered truant, allowing the state to fine or even jail the parents.

Over 350,000 comments were submitted to the government during a 60-day public comment period, after an initial draft of the proposed regulations was originally released in March. Most of the comments opposed state regulation of private schools from a philosophical standpoint, according to officials, but the state seems intent on passing the regulations anyway.

The YAFFED organization celebrated Monday’s vote in a tweet Monday morning, while Rabbinic leaders and community members expressed their dismay.

The final vote is expected on Tuesday morning, between the hours of 9:50 AM and 11:00 AM.

A big “THANK YOU” to all the askanim, rebbes, rabbis, shvitzers, etc who, for years, have been full throated supporters of the Democrats in Albany. Just what has the Jewish Community ever received in return for their support (except well place $$ that never seems to filter down to the regular people)

Weird how those who left the community left entirely Yiddishkiet are concerned for our children.

They should be concerned for the kids in public schools where they send their kids.

YAFFED will never win the orthodox community. Never ever.

They may give us hardships but never will they win us.

It’s about who laughs last.

They deserve a big thank you because our chasidesh mosdos English education is one big joke and its time the government does something about it. Why do we conflate the superb secular education provided at torah vodahs to the abysmal education I received in my chasidesh mosdos its disingenuous of everyone to conflate the 2. Its about time to crack down and make sure our chsidesh mosdos do the proper thing.

This is terrible discrimination against inzere hymishe Ingarishe Hasidim, whose ancestors spoke Hungarian.

We must keep the old Hungarian Hasidic custom to speak Hungarian, a hyligeh minhug avoisayni, and not, chas vesholem, learn treifene English!

Many Gedolei Yisroel said not to take any funding from the government when it comes to education. I personally know Rav Gedalia Schorr of Torah Vodaas was adamant about it. The Satmar Rebbe Reb Yoel was that way as well. This was their reason. If you let them in for money they can dictate what you do with the money. In the 60’s and 70’s todays’ liberal wokeness wasn’t even a dream. lbgtq+ wasn’t a thing. Neither was crt or the rest of the junk. It has nothing what to do with quality secular education, It’s about control. The distribution of tax payer monies falls on the elected officials, so they get to dictate how it’s used. We need to daven first, vote republican second.

Something really strange going on here. The Orthodox huge powerful community with tens of thousands of people comes a paper organization Yaffed lead by Moster and they are more powerful than the entire Orthodox community..

Something fishy

Let’s just say that they are right that the Yeshivos don’t teach proper English. Do you think for 1 second that they have our children and our children’s future in mind, and that they care about them.
Or they want to drive them down the drain like the Public School children. To teach them “Heather has two Momies”. A woman is not really a woman, the LBGTU is normal etc…

What a terrible day for Hymishe Hasidim. No chulent or kigel for at least three days.

Government involvement in chinuch is a disaster either way you look at it. The public schools have failed to provide a stellar result. This is not any different than the situation we found ourselves in Europe. Yiddishkeit shows these immoral “people” the right path in life and they can’t stand being confronted with it.

For hundreds of years, Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshiva opposed government interference in Jewish school and yeshiva curriculum.

I hope there will be big protests in Manhatten for several days/ weeks. Those who support Hochul should be on the front lines of organizing it.

How about we register all and I mean all of our kids to Public school at once, and it will bring the so called system to a halt.

The Supreme Court already ruled that such action would be unconstitutional in a case involving the Amish and their schools.

Someone should make this known to those involved in fighting this.

There is already legal precedent against it.

If I am reading correctly, they want the yeshivos to have a Regents. If so, I dont understand why the Yeshivos can not just create a standard Regents on Yediyos klalios, or basic Parsha , Mishna or Gemora – a basic knowledge exam, something that would be applicable across all yeshivos, to show that the yeshivos are teaching yiddishkeit. Let the government see how much yeshivos teach and how complex it is to what they teach in public school.

All the wiseguys here that are now happy that the “required” English studies will be forced on the Yeshivas – wait until your children come home and ask for a gender change and question you on LGBTQ that was required reading for homework.
Maybe then you will understand…. Maybe

Finally bh .Hopefully they will enforce these new regulations as its outrageous how we got away for years with this whole English joke, where kids just throw paper airplanes on their teachers and learn nothing at all.

I hope they do the same thing here in New Jersey and make sure the yeshivahs provide our children a basic basic secular education as required by law.
