Perhaps equally outrageous, Governor Kathy Hochul hypocritically blasted woke Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, saying the charges his office brought against the “ax man” were too lenient. Yet Hochul is culpable, since her radical leftist policies are the reason the insane no-cash-bail laws still exist.
Michael Palacios (allegedly) used a hatchet to wreck two tables, smash a glass partition and terrorize customers inside a restaurant around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
On Monday, Hochul questioned why the (alleged) hatchet-wielding maniac was hit with charges that were so light, they allowed him to be automatically released without bail.
Only the governor can fire a DA, and Hochul has repeatedly refused to terminate Bragg. In addition, she’s done virtually nothing to reform the current bail laws in New York State, which are a complete disaster.
During a separate news conference Monday, Hochul’s Republican opponent Lee Zeldin said: “I believe that the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, should be fired. Kathy Hochul says, ‘He just got there, cut him some slack. He’s doing his job.’ Let’s debate it.”
Speaking outside the restaurant in which the attack took place, Zeldin repeated his call to reform “cashless bail,” saying, “You could see the fear in the eyes of other people who are here at this McDonald’s just a few days ago. The individual who ends up arrested is instantly released back out on the street because the crimes he was charged with are not eligible.”
He added, “Right now there should be a special session in Albany. They could do this tomorrow. This is not a Republican vs. Democrat issue.”
Palacios was only charged with misdemeanors—an egregious miscarriage of justice.
Palacios reportedly told ABC7 New York that his “intentions were not to hurt anyone.” Well isn’t that a relief?
