JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: Mrs. Elka Rothman, the daughter of Rabbi Amram Blau, leader of the Neturei Karta in Jerusalem, passed away Tuesday at the age of 98, leaving an estimated 2000 descendants.

Rothman was born on 3 Kislev 5685 and lived in the Batei Broide neighborhood, adjacent to Nahlaot and Shaarei Chesed. She was married to Rabbi Yisrael Asher Rothman z’l, one of the prominent teachers at the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah, and had 13 children. Her husband passed away in 1984.
Relatives and friends said that “her house was open to every pauper, she guarded her tongue from any evil speech. She had a good opinion on every person and served her creator until the last day of her life, with joy, praise and singing.”
Jerusalemites used to joke that she is the grandmother of half of Jerusalem and her name appeared on so many wedding invitations that printers used to ask people making weddings “with Elka or without Elka?”
Mrs. Rothman is predeceased by her daughter, Mrs. Sheindal Esther Blau, who passed away after illness at the age of 52. She is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who follow in her illustrious footsteps.
