JERUSALEM (VINnews) — On Sunday evening, about a thousand protesters demonstrated against a cell phone in the Geula neighborhood in Jerusalem. Toldos Avraham Yitzchak Chassidim went to the store to demonstrate, led by the Rebbe, who himself came to demonstrate in front of the store.

Within a short time, the demonstration turned into a mass protest, with hundreds more gathering in front of the store, which was already closed. Shocking video footage from the scene show clashes between police and the demonstrators.

In the videos, a group of mounted police can be seen galloping through the crowd of Charedi protesters. National security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir asked Commissioner Kobi Shabtai to investigate the officers’ conduct and discern whether the use of force was justified.

The police released a statement, which says in part: “At the beginning…police allowed the demonstration to take place lawfully, but at one point, protesters…tried to damage the cell phone shop while physically pushing the officers who separated between them and the shop.

“…criminals sprayed pepper spray and threw eggs at the officers…The riots continued while eggs and other objects continued to be thrown at officers; police forces pushed the rioters away and detained one suspect caught throwing eggs at officers…”

Chareidim violently attacking a cell phone store [or any other store] will NEVER cause anyone to love Torah or love Chareidim.

Chareidim violently attacking a cell phone store [or any other store] will cause people to HATE Torah and HATE Chareidim.

Chareidim are already the most hated people in Israel, and this incident is guaranteed to make Chareidim even more hated than they were before.

Why are they not in yeshiva learning who told them to do this?.

You know, there are always apologists who say that the leadership is against violent demonstrations against the light rail/cell phone stores/issue of the day. This story states that the leader of one of the major Meah Shearim groups was the one who led the demonstration, putting lie to that argument.

The demonstrations against these cell phone stores are incited by a “chareidi” organized crime group who are engaged in extortion. They try to extort sums of money from store owners. Unlike the mafia here in the USA, they don’t sell you “fire insurance”, they sell you mob insurance. If you don’t pay up, the mob comes. You will be beaten and your store vandalized. I’m not talking from the top of my head, but I well know a victim of this “chareidi” mafia.

It seems to me that the police are being very gentle. .Most countries would not tolerate such vandalism of a retail store.

Ben Gavir – so what should we do let them run the city blocking all streets at their will etc. Do you knw there are decent, responsible people that live in Jerusalem, work for a living and have the need to go back and forth

When you’re bored and repressed, you riot over anything. Cell phone stores? What’s next?

It is so sad that this is what has become Judaism today. I say this with no judgment of or animosity to these people. They were nebach born into a cult.

It’s easy to have an opinion from the outside looking in. I’m not smart enough to say who is right and wrong here. I will say though, that in our society we are accustomed to a certain way of life. Smart phones is an obviously totally normal for most. However, the people who live in those neighborhoods are trying to maintain a certain level of life. They are not new to the neighborhood and just decided this. They have been living there since before Israel was a state. I am not in anyway condoning violence- the article states it started off as a non violent protest. I’m just saying we need to understand there are other viewpoints than just ours.
Regardless, it is terribly sad to see the hatred Jews can have for each other and the violence it leads to in these situations. H-Shem Yishmor.

Smart phones are spiritually dangerous, but so is having a tongue to speak loshan hora spiritually dangerous. If one feels he needs to cut off his tongue to safeguard himself, that does not justify cutting off other people’s tongues. The reason there is a cell phone store in Mea Sharim is because it’s profitable, as many people in the neighborhood need cell phones. Halachically people have a right to own smart phones with filters. Protesting the way others deal with the spiritual threat is like protesting the fact that certain people choose to learn different sforim. Imagine a group protesting against the sale of the sefer Baal HaTanya. You don’t like the sefer, don’t buy it, but don’t tell other people not to buy it. To think that only your rebbe has daas torah, and to discount the majority opinions is simply kfira. The behavior is that of mazikim and rodfim, and the fact that they are dressed in charedi garb makes it a chillul Hashem.

Pay very close attention to behavior like this it’s a very telling Tale. Instead of learning more Torah increasing more mitzvahs they’re out there demonstrating and rioting. Just because someone looks Gd fearing doesn’t mean they are even if they’re dressed for the part

The police did not use excessive force according to the videos shown here. The amount of fighting back and resistance from the guy struggling versus the amount of pressure and moves the police used were necessary force.

Black Lives Matter is at least about people. These protestors apparently believe more strongly that Cell Phones Matter.

Such a Chilul Hashem. Do their Rabbis have no power to stop them? Or is this what they want? When I listen to the Gedolim I see nothing in their language that would condone anything like this. Does HaRav Edelstein support this? The Ger Rebbe? The Belzer Rebbe? Who are these peoples leaders? I’m honestly curious, I want to talk to them.

In the greater picture, we should be protesting the microwave-producing towers, and the under-regulated cellphones OF ALL TYPES: SMARTPHONES AND FLIP PHONES which are also tower equivalents that should not be placed against the head (– and public wi-fi as well)! This is explicitly mentioned on the health warning on all phones. (The amount of suggested space to maintain away from the head differs by countries. Nonetheless, cellphone tests are arbitrary and were conducted with dummies representing a 230 pound soldier with very thick bone density where radiation penetrates significantly less.)

Although I have a filtered smartphone, I am most inspired by the Toldos Aharon people who want their community and neighborhood to be clean from the spiritual shmutz called the smartphone or regular cellphone not up to their standards. They should have much hatzlacha in their struggle to protect their neighborhoods.

There are other neighborhoods where these cell phone store owners can sell these devices. I always say that people should respect the neighborhood they work in, do business in, or they live in. Oftentimes people destroy the physical or spiritual character of a neighborhood and it’s disgusting and vile. Good for the Toldos Aharaon for resisting these changes that is practically being forced upon them.

The only way you deal with filthy rabies infected sewer rats, is to fumigate the place.
If it’s true that it’s the Avrom yitzchok rebbe who instigated and sent his gangsters to riot. Then have the guy arrested immediately, and give him a long prison sentence or better yet, send him to his friends in Gaza.
That is the only way the city will take back the streets from these criminals and gangsters
