Less than two weeks ago, 11 Supreme Court judges discussed petitions calling on the High Court to disqualify Deri from his position as a minister in Netanyahu’s sixth government due to his conviction for tax offenses about a year ago. Deri resigned from the Knesset at the time; therefore, in the plea agreement signed with him, no decision was made on the scandal issue. Gali Beharev-Miara, the government’s legal advisor, responded to the matter even before the High Court hearing and said that the appointment of the Shas chairman to the minister ” exceeds the range of reasonableness”.
As a response, Deri said: “I don’t know what the course of action will be. Netanyahu, Levin and the coalition need to find a solution, this is not a one-off issue of Shas, there is a struggle between two extremes here and we have entered the line of fire. Obviously, it is impossible to continue with the situation where the court hurts the people who went to the polls. I know Netanyahu wants to solve the problem.”
Deri continued by saying he won’t resign. According to him “The petition is not against me, it is against the Prime Minister who needs to fire me. The public chose me. Not the Supreme Court.”
tax is for suckers, Deri does not have to pay them.
At least he’s not a pedophile lover like Yakov Litzman.
Term limits must be mandated in the Knesset, across the board.
The court in Israel is a threat to democracy and free elections. Just imagine if Trump got our Supreme Court to side with him and over turn a free elections. How would you feel about our democracy ?
