The arrest was made after police officers from the David precinct together with a security guard operating in the Old City noticed a boy who aroused their suspicion.

The knife was found when police searched the boy. The suspect was arrested by police and taken in for questioning. He will be brought to court for remand on Sunday. Police continue to investigate the incident.

The commander of the Jerusalem district, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, praised the vigilance of the police officers and said: “This is another example of the professionalism of Jerusalem district police officers and Border Police officers working in the city in the ongoing fight against terrorism. The vigilance of the police officers, as well as their quick response and pursuit are what led to the arrest of the suspect who was planning to carry out an attack with a knife he had in his possession.”

“In the face of terrorist threats, there is no substitute for the determined activity of our police officers who are constantly working to thwart hostile terrorist activity and deal with any security threat. We will continue to fight terrorism with all the tools at our disposal and thwart terrorist threats of any kind for the sake of the security of the citizens of the State of Israel,” Turgeman said.
