Lily’s story was made popular by her great-grandson, Dov Forman, who shot numerous Tiktok clips with his great-grandmother during the coronavirus period. This week, Lily, whose story was published by Forman in the 2021 bestselling book Lily’s Promise, came to Windsor Castle, the seat of the British monarch, to receive the honor from the king himself.
During the course of the ceremony, Lily said to King Charles: “I was in the hell, Auschwitz. How special it is to be here today, with the king, in the palace!”
Dov tweeted that “It was so humbling to see my incredible, 99 year old, great grandmother receive her MBE today, at Windsor Castle, from His Majesty The King.”
Ebert is one of the UK’s last living Auschwitz survivors and has devoted her life to educating people about the Holocaust.
