TEL AVIV (VINnews) — Sara Netanyahu was accosted by a massive angry mob of protesters and became trapped in a Tel Aviv hair salon on Wednesday evening. The Prime Minister’s wife needed to be rescued by police, after waiting hours to be extricated.

Nearly one thousand protesters against the government plan to reform the judiciary rallied and marched in many cities around the country.
In Tel Aviv, which had rare violent clashes between protesters and police earlier in the day, rioters converged on Kikar HaMedina Plaza after learning that Mrs. Netanyahu was at a salon getting a haircut.
The protesters blocked the entrance to the salon and screamed at security guards protecting the prime minister’s wife.
“The country is burning and Sara is getting a haircut,” they shouted.

Police were quickly deployed to prevent total chaos, with the premier’s wife holed up inside. Eventually, large police forces arrived and evacuated Netanyahu.
The incident occurred around the time Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an address to the nation, comparing protesters who clashed with cops in Tel Aviv to settlers who rampaged through a Palestinian town earlier in the week.
Many politicians on both sides of the aisle condemned what was essentially a hostage situation.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “The anarchical activists led by Lapid continue to cross red lines. Right now they are harassing and threatening my wife in Tel Aviv. I call on Lapid and the opposition to stop this immediately and condemn this shameful and unprecedented act.”
Opposition leader Yair Lapid tweeted, “I call on the protesters in Kikar Hamedina to allow Sara Netanyahu to leave and go home. Your fight and ours is against the regime coup and the destruction of democracy.”
National Unity Party chairman Benny Gantz also called on the protesters to leave.
“I call on the protesters in Kikar Hamedina: Let the Prime Minister’s wife return home, and continue to wave your flags,” he said. “We will continue to act together, in a variety of legal ways, to stop the coup d’état.”
Justice Minister Yariv Levin said, “The siege on the Prime Minister’s wife, Mrs. Sara Netanyahu, is insane and unprecedented. Those who thought that anarchy would stop with roadblocks and jumping on tables in the Knesset discovered tonight that when violence and disturbances are permitted, things don’t stop there. It is time to apply the rule of law to those who speak in the name of the rule of law while trampling on the law and on the individual rights of anyone who does not think like them.”

It seems Israel is paying a very high price for some minor adjustments in the judiciary. Perhaps the changes are not so minor.
In any case, Israel need a steady hand on the helm, someone who knows how to govern right up the middle. Someone like Bibi. Perhaps he does not want to govern right up the middle.
I’m waiting here with baited breath for the Orthodox Union to come out with a strong statement denouncing these anarchists and hooligans that were attempting to harm another Jew. But we probably won’t hear anything. Only retaliation against supporters of murderers (if not actual killers themselves) is it important to condemn them.
