JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Gerer chasidic sect’s Communications Committee issued a declaration in the sect’s various shuls describing what it termed the “loopholes in multimedia systems in cars” and stressing that Tesla cars, which have systems which cannot be filtered, should not be purchased or used.

Entitled “Bal Yeraeh U’Bal Yimatze” [should not be seen of found] the declaration states that “after numerous incidents and tragedies which occurred, we are obligated to warn and issue an alarm that unfiltered appliances should not be seen or found in our camp in any way, both visible and hidden.

“Additionally it has become clear that in many vehicles the multimedia systems are open and exposed to the internet. Even in cases where the company claimed that it was filtered or the users believe that it has nothing untoward, in most cases the unfiltered internet can easily be reached with a number of damaging incidents occurring, may Hashem have mercy.”

The declaration placed responsibility on “each and every person not to bring such impediments to himself or to his children and not to maintain a dangerous phone appliance without a filter or supervision in his possession.”

The declaration recommended detaching the Waze application from every vehicle system and added that “Tesla vehicles cannot be detached at all from the internet system and therefore should not be purchased or used.”

Just an update on my original comment. Its not just cars they will have to ban, as I look around my kitchen I can see how in a few years every home appliance and even to get into your own house especially if you live in an apartment building will have (or potential to have) internet access.

The fact that car cost $130,000 is fine, it’s the internet that’s the problem?!

This article convinced me to not buy a Tesla. I bought a Volkswagen instead. What was so nice is when I told the salesman my name is Sheldon Greenstein he insisted on throwing in for free the extra level sealant on the windows & doors & told me if I smell gas exhaust when driving I should keep the windows closed & just ignore it.

For the record,
1) TAG has warned about this for years, They actually have a $10000 bounty for who ever figured out how to filter it.
2) Teslas sold in Israel come with the internet connection standard (unlike the US wher eyou need to pay for it)
3) other eCard do have ways to filter/lock the browser

Why can’t we organize and make a movement to have Tesla add content filtering features. Can someone make a Change.org petition or a twitter poll and get Musk’s attention on this matter.
Make it a challenge for him and Tesla. Can Tesla to make their content filters and protections stronger than Apple’s sreentime content restrictions? Those are pretty strong when using a whitelist for websites. Apple has been perfecting that for years. Have them do it like GenTech, or maybe the Gentech guys can be consultants and can help them. I don’t know.
I have no first hand experience using a Tesla console but I understand the issue at hand.
Believe it or not, some companies respond to outside pressure or will do things if you just ask. I once helped quality test a new user interface for major website just as a favor before they were released to the general users. Some of the developers love user interaction because a user can help catch the all the bugs in the system.
Someone should start a conversation on Twitter with Musk himself and show him a Change.org petition with ten thousand signatures, i.e. thousands of petential customer. The petiton is also a commitment to not buy Teslas until they resolve this issue….in all countries.
Why can’t frum jews (like webchaver users) and christians (like covenant eyes users) join forces and do this Change.org petition and make a Twitter movement?
Let’s figure this issue out. Don’t offer $10,000 to patch the problem, show Tesla 10,000 signature on a petition and have Tesla fix the issue permanently.
We demand that the user experience in Teslas now include complete content control of everything that comes through those screens. No loopholes. Comprehensive end-user testing and feedback until this is a non-issue! Then we will consider purchasing one if we find 50K laying around.

I personally believe a Tesla car with all its cameras and sensors is safer than other cars. Yes other cars have this but the investment and level of sophistication of other cars has not yet reached Tesla. On autopilot if one g-d forbid fell asleep at the highway the car would maintain the lane and stop if necessAry. Isn’t life/safety more important than unfiltered internet.

For the naysayers in the chat that will say that people have had lots of accidents because of tesla, all cars have accidents. I would say that the accidents in Tesla are less and of lower severity, which is published in news reports on Electeks website (the gold standard for reporting on electric cars and technology)

In years reading VIN, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a vicious, hateful and ignorant comment.
