Secular Elements Threaten To Boycott Drugstore Chain After Bnei Brak Branch Covers Women’s Faces On Items

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In an attempt by secular elements to emulate the chareidi boycott on Angel’s, a group of women are attempting to organize a boycott of the Be drugstore chain after discovering that it covers the faces of women on items in its display in Bnei Brak. The chain claimed that the branch was designated for the chareidi community of the city, but the women claimed that this is illegal ‘feminine exclusion.’

Some 5,000 women have signed a letter to the owner of Supersol, who owns the Be [formerly Newpharm] chain, calling on him to immediately remove the stickers from faces of women on hair coloring items or face a boycott from them.

In the letter the women write that “when a large chain allows itself to erase womens’ faces, even in one branch, this opens the door to other chains and institutions to exclude women. We will not let a large pharmaceutical company in Israel exclude women- they won’t erase us from the public arena! Placing stickers is part of a general trend by the right-wing government to anchor gender discrimination in the law via coalition agreements.

“This is a worrying trend which must be stopped. We call on Be to remove the stickers from the faces and call on Supersol to commit not to exclude females from the public arena, and not to cover their faces on ads.

“We declare that female exclusion will not be quietly accepted. If Be continues to exclude women, we will boycott them. If they won’t state clearly that they are not going to erase us and will remove the stickers, we will boycott the chain and call on all of you women not to buy from a place which erases you.”

A lawyer came to the store and protested the decision to cover women’s faces. The manager said that “If I get a directive, I will remove the stickers”. The lawyer, Guy Offir, summoned police and the manager also summoned them over Offir’s provocations. The policeman dismissed Offir’s claims, stating that this is the custom in the city and compared it to bringing bread there on Pesach, which would be unacceptable.

Be responded to the claims stating that it has 90 branches around Israel and only one in a chareidi neighborhood and it respects all of the sectors of the Israeli public. “This picture was taken in a store in Bnei Brak catering to the chareidi public. This only occurs in that branch.”

It’s beyond silly to paint out the faces on everyday products (one solution could be to have these likely women’s products in one particular section of the store so men can avoid that part if they want), but it affects the “secular” folks on No way. So ignore them

They’re a private company, they can do what they want. If you don’t like it, don’t shop there

Obviously they can do as they wish. But the chareidi community (of which I am a part of) really needs to stop this covering up women’s faces thing. The erasure of women from books, magazines etc is pretty insane.

Covering the faces on boxes? Extremely dumb. What’s next? Not selling dolls to frum little girls because the dolls depict female faces? No comics with female characters? Sorry to say this, but did the business owners do this on their own, or did the local store owner request this? Do they do this sort of stuff in New Square and Kiryas Yoel? I have no idea.

No one (of these secular) seems to care about what the Hareidi women who themselves shop at the store want. Maybe those Hareidi women don’t want their husbands ogling pictures of other women?

Why does a product have to have a human face on it at all?

Cant you see the hand writing on the wall, Israel will be 2 separate countries each one fighting with each other. boycotts, demonstrations, etc.
Will it lead to a civil war? Most experts expect a coup by the non religious once the Israel becomes over 50% religious. They will fight for their country like their parents did years ago. Who can stop them – they are the ones going to the army and have the means of fighting, the other will only be able to protest. It seems all the experts that understand human emotions say it will happen.
A few wanted to argue that once power is in he hands of the frum people they will know how to deal fair. as the youner generation will be more worldly then their predecessors. Clearly that is not happening, the new ones are even more extreme and they will force others to carry the army burden, all the while taking their work money for Torah learning.
So the result can only be one thing unfortunately
