JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Torah world is praying for the speedy recovery of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, 100, who was hospitalized during Shavuos night due to acute shortness of breath. Rabbi Edelstein felt unwell on Shavuos night and after he was examined by emergency responders, he was taken to the Maayanei Hayeshua hospital at 2:30 AM on Friday morning.
Rabbi Edelstein is the leader of the Lithuanian chareidi community in Israel and is the Rosh Yeshiva of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
Over the course of the night, Rabbi Edelstein’s condition stabilized, but he is still hospitalized and his condition is being closely monitored. During the course of the festival and Shabbat the Rosh Yeshiva’s close family members conducted the meals and prayers together with him.
The Ponevezh Yeshiva students stopped their usual Shavuos night Torah studies in order to recite Psalms for the Rosh Yeshiva’s recovery.
The public is asked to pray for the recovery of Rabbi Yerachmiel Gershon, the son of Miriam.
