JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In a nocturnal operation at the site of the former community of Chomesh, the yeshiva of Chomesh was transferred from its current tents to a building located a few hundred meters away. The building is situated on state lands and not on disputed lands as had the previous location of the yeshiva.
The operation, funded by donations from Israel and abroad, was authorized by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant despite not being approved by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the official in charge of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria.
At the end of the construction work, Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan placed the Mezuzah and recited the brachos, including Baruch Matziv Gvul Almanah which is recited when Jews return to places in the land of Israel that had previously been inhabited and uprooted.
Dagan spoke of the “historical moment” in which the yeshiva is “a few steps” from “fixing the terrible injustice of the eviction from Chomesh.” He added that “two months ago the government finally removed the mark of Cain of expulsion from Israel’s statutory laws and this is a further step towards rectifying the injustice.” Dagan promised to rebuild the other destroyed communities of Sa-Nur, Ganim and Kadim as well as building other communities in Northern Samaria.
The yeshiva at Chomesh has maintained a presence at the site for the past 16 years, although it has had numerous altercations with IDF forces due to the prohibition against residing at the site based on the 2005 Disengagement Law, which was repealed by the current government.
Chazak Chazak!!!!
Nice to see the entire yeshiva kollel having a simcha from the decision by the Israeli- Zionist govt! May there be many more.
Rav Shach opposed settlements. Gedolei Yisrael opposed settlements. Yeshiva’s and Torah should not be used as political tools. This is shameful and repulsive.
What is these people problem? They don’t have enough issues to fight with the Palestinians over? Is anyone’s life going to be safer because of this? Is there such a large community nearby that there is such a desperate need for a Yeshiva? Is this a
Yeshiva for the sake of Torah or for the sake of a political statement?
I’m not ch’v saying the above to express hatred for them but it does need to pointed out thar this is a very misguided venture. Dangerous politics. Not a Torah endeavor
The Biden admin was quick to condemn them, while they still haven’t said a word let alone condemned the pali terror regimes pm and president’s spokesman for their praise of the murderers of the Dee family.
