JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Due to the Home Command’s closure of Mt. Meron to mass events during the course of Lag Ba’Omer, various Chasidic groups have been preparing alternative locations in order to be able to light the fire in mass gatherings as is their custom, according to a Kikar HaShabat report.

Several groups are planning to prepare a huge compound at the Shimon Hatzadik tomb in Jerusalem in order to enable those who wish to participate in the Hilula to arrive there instead of Meron. Among those planning to light the fire there will be the Rachamstrivka Rebbe and his chasidim.

The Boyaner Rebbe, who has the official duty of lighting the fire in Meron every year, is planning to light a fire at the Boyan Beis Midrash in Jerusalem together with his chasidim who will spend the Shabbos before Lag Ba’Omer with him (the festival falls on Saturday night). He will then travel to Meron with a small entourage in order to light the fire on the roof of Rashbi’s tomb.

The Vizhnitz chasidim will hold the lighting at their Beis Midrash in Bnei Brak, where tens of thousands of seats will be prepared for the chasidim and their families. After the lighting there will be dancing during the night as well as hundreds of Chalakes (first haircuts) for the young children of the chasidic group. Further activities will take place on Sunday, including a festive tish (meal) with the Vizhnitz rebbe.

The Tzanz chasidim will hold their lighting on the Sunday evening at 6 PM, followed by a tish in honor of Lag Ba’Omer.

Rabbi Elimelech Biderman is set to perform the central lighting in Bet Shemesh, with thousands of local residents and others who will travel to the city to participate in the lighting, which draws a huge crowd annually.

The Toldos Aharon and Toldos Avraham Yitzchak groups will hold their lightings in Jerusalem , although the latter group may still hold a lighting in Meron for some chasidim if it is approved by security officials.

The Vizhnitz Rebbe will also be holding a lighting in Ashdod Sunday including various different events at the chasidic center in the city.
