BNEI BRAK (VINnews) — As has been the custom for decades, the Israeli flag was flown on the roof of the Ponevezh Yeshiva, in honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut.

The custom began at the instruction of the Ponevezher Rav, Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman ZT’L, who would hang the yeshiva on the roof, after the establishment of the state (possibly as part of a deal struck with Ben Gurion).
Since then, the flag has been hung on the yeshiva every year on Independence Day.
During Rabbi Kahaneman’s time, the yeshiva reportedly did not say the daily Tachanun prayer. However, nowadays the yeshiva says Tachanun.
There is an unverified story, that someone once asked the Ponovezher Rav why he did not say Tachanun, however he also did not recite Hallel.
He reportedly replied (tongue-in-cheek), “I follow what Ben Gurion did – he did not recite Hallel but also did not say Tachanun!”
He didn’t hang the yeshiva. Though your Freudian slip can be interpreted. And it was not a deal with Ben Gurion. Do some research. At least Call Rabbi Wein
possible? they will just assume anything that make the zionist look bad, no wonder why everyone just ignore what they say.
