New York to Implement Ban on Small Shampoo Bottles in Hotels

    19

NEW YORK – Starting January 1, 2025, New York state will require hotels to eliminate small bottles of personal care products, such as shampoo and lotions. This mandate follows the passage of a bill by the New York Assembly aimed at reducing waste.

According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, hotels with more than 50 rooms will no longer be permitted to offer toiletry bottles under 12 ounces. The legislation, introduced in 2019, defines “hospitality personal care product” as any item provided by a hotel for cleansing purposes to be applied to the body.

Hotels found violating this new rule will initially receive a warning and will have 30 days to comply. If they fail to correct the issue, they will face a $250 fine. Continued non-compliance within the next 30 days will result in a $500 fine.

Some major hotels have already started adapting to these changes. A spokesperson from Marriott Hotels mentioned that they have transitioned from small toiletry bottles to larger, pump-topped bottles as part of their initiative to reduce plastic waste. By the end of 2023, Marriott Hotels achieved 95% compliance in this transition for certain brands across managed and franchised hotels globally, with more properties expected to comply through 2024.

They realized that the illegal immigrants don’t need the small bottles as they are there long term, so they may as well give them the big bottles of shampoo & conditioner etc

Total idiocy. No one wants to use shampoo or anything else that another guest has used. Family members don’t even share these things. Asinine.
