DETROIT – On Wednesday, Vice President Harris faced disruptions during a campaign rally in Detroit from protesters opposing the Gaza conflict, marking the first such interruption since she began her presidential campaign.

As Harris addressed a packed hangar full of supporters, protesters in the crowd repeatedly chanted, “Kamala, Kamala, you can’t hide, we won’t vote for genocide.” The noise was met with boos and counter-chants of “Kamala” from her supporters.
“I’m here because we value democracy. Every voice matters, but right now I am speaking,” Harris responded, receiving applause.
As the disruptions continued, Harris gave a more direct response. “If you want Donald Trump to win, then say so. Otherwise, let me continue,” she declared.
Michigan, especially its Detroit suburbs, has a significant Arab American population. Some Democrats are concerned that the Biden administration’s stance on the Gaza conflict might impact their support in the upcoming election.
In recent months, similar protests have targeted President Biden during his campaign appearances, with demonstrators accusing him of having “blood on his hands,” calling him “genocide Joe,” and demanding a “cease-fire now.”
