Abuja, Nigeria (VINnews)— Former U.S. federal agent and current Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, has been held captive in Nigeria for over six months after being lured to the country under the guise of a business meeting. Disturbing videos have surfaced showing Gambaryan on crutches, visibly weakened, and reportedly being tortured by his captors. The Biden administration has faced criticism for its lack of action, as Gambaryan’s health continues to deteriorate.

The first video, recorded during a court appearance, shows Gambaryan being denied a wheelchair. Guards, seemingly under orders, refuse to assist him as he struggles to stand. The harrowing footage has sparked outrage among human rights advocates and the international community.
The second video, provided by Gambaryan’s family, was taken over three months ago. It was the last video Gambaryan recorded before his phone was confiscated by Nigerian authorities. In the video, Gambaryan appears distressed, signaling the severity of his situation.
Gambaryan’s family has been vocal in their appeals to the Biden administration, urging them to intervene before it is too late. “We are begging for help. His health is rapidly declining, and we fear the worst,” said a family spokesperson.
Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, expressed deep concern over the incident, stating, “To invite a company’s mid-level employees for collaborative policy meetings, only to detain them, has set a dangerous new precedent for all companies worldwide.” Teng’s comments highlight the potential risks facing international business professionals in volatile regions.
Despite the gravity of the situation, there has been little movement from U.S. authorities. Critics argue that the administration’s inaction could embolden other countries to engage in similar tactics, endangering more lives.
As Gambaryan’s condition worsens, the call for urgent action grows louder. His family, colleagues, and supporters are pleading for immediate intervention before the situation takes a tragic turn.
The Biden administration has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
