Campus Tensions Rise as Pro-Palestinian Protests Disrupt First Day at Columbia University

New York (VINnews)-The first day of classes at Columbia University was marked by more than just the excitement of a new academic year. Students navigating their way to lectures found themselves amid a chaotic scene as pro-Palestinian rioters gathered on campus, voicing their concerns over the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

The demonstration, which started early in the morning near the main gates, quickly grew in size and volume. The Terrorist sympathizers carried signs, chanted slogans, and blocked several pathways, making it difficult for students and faculty members to reach their classes on time.

“This isn’t the way I imagined my first day at Columbia,” said Sarah Rodriguez, a freshman who was caught in the middle of the protest. “I understand the importance of free speech and the right to protest, but it was really overwhelming trying to get to class with everything going on.”

The protest was organized by a coalition of student groups, including Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), who have been vocal about their opposition to Israeli policies and the U.S. government’s support of Israel. The groups argue that the university’s investments in companies that do business with Israel contribute to what they describe as the oppression of Palestinians.

“We’re here to make our voices heard and to demand that Columbia divest from companies that profit from the occupation,” said one protester, who asked to remain anonymous. “The university cannot claim to stand for human rights while being complicit in apartheid.”

The protest drew a range of reactions from the student body. Some expressed support for the protesters’ cause, while others were frustrated by the disruption.

“I respect their right to protest, but blocking access to campus is not the way to do it,” said John Lee, a senior majoring in political science. “It’s important to have these conversations, but not at the expense of other students’ education.”

University officials have not yet released a statement regarding the protest, but security presence on campus was noticeably increased as the day went on. Several classes had to be relocated, and some were even canceled due to the disruptions.

“As an ex-pat , proud, white South-African, inculcated with genuine and unadulterated beliefs in the true form apartheid should have, I am incensed that anyone dare claim that Israelhas achieved the lofty status of an apartheid state. Israel clearly has no idea how to enforce apartheid. They do a terrible job of maintaining separation of race and color. You get the feeling that they don’t even try to maintain the proper separate development creed as laid out by apartheid theologians. Those Israelis actually allow Arabs and colored people to be treated in their regular hospitals. They even allow Arab doctors to be hospital directors. The Israelis don’t even know ,or care, that park benches have to be designated for whites and non-whites. Neither are they aware that little picanninies are not permitted to use park amenities or play with white children in public places. And they don’t enforce separate water fountains for different races! They are complete failures at upholding the purity of race in education and actually allow everyone, regardless of race, creed or gender into their colleges and universities. It’s atrocious! Warning: this is all tongue in cheek. Israel has never claimed to be an apartheid state. Those useful idiots from Columbia U did. Can’t get it into their thick heads, i suppose.
