Morgan suggested that Benjamin Netanyahu is to blame for the ongoing hostage crisis, because of his inability to compromise.
Murray pushed back on the presumption that Netanyahu is not compromising. He said it’s not Netanyahu who is uncompromising, rather it is Hamas. They could have returned the hostages all these months, they could have used the billions in tax dollars they got from US and British citizens to build a booming paradise. Rather they chose to build tunnels and enrich their leaders.
Murray said “These are fanatics, they want the death of their own citizens in order to put pressure on the West. How can you compromise with that?”
Murray said that Westerners tend to believe that wars end because one side “comes around” and agrees, however the reality is, wars end because one side wins and the other side loses.
A great man. May he be blessed.
Unfortunately, the cult of the individual and the “me” zeitgeist has infected Israel as well. It’s all about my personal tragedy. The families of the hostages are putting their own personal situation above the welfare of the whole country. It’s understandable, but firm leadership is needed to put things in a proper perspective.
Douglas Murray is one of the chasidei umos haolam. He does not allow himself to be intimidated by blustering bullies like Piers Morgan. He answers firmly and to the point without getting cowed by Piers.
At least there is one sane person left in the world. Thank you Douglas.
