Archives Prove Netanyahu’s Consistent Rejection Of Philadelphi Withdrawal -From 2004

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — On Monday, Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel will not relinquish the strategic Philadelphi corridor, stressing that if Israel were to withdraw it would not be able to return, and that the corridor had served as the major source of Hamas weapons and terrorist activities.

Opponents of Netanyahu, including Benny Gantz and Gadi Aizenkot, claimed in response that his intransigence regarding the corridor basically ended negotiations and could spell a death sentence for the remaining hostages. They added that Netanyahu himself had authorized large-scale transfers of funds to Hamas, as well as allowing materials which could be used for differing purposes to enter Gaza. It was also claimed that Netanyahu had not opposed the transfer of the Philadelphi corridor to Egypt during the 2005 disengagement, and had not even planned to reach Philadelphi in the current war.

Israeli journalist Amit Segal searched the archives and found clear proof that Bibi himself had consistently warned even in 2004 against withdrawing from Philadelphi, stating that this could endanger “Ashdod and Ashkelon” (as it eventually did). Bibi was mocked and scorned both by Shimon Peres and by then Prime Minister Sharon, but he voted against the withdrawal from Philadelphi.

Peres ridicules Netanyahu’s concerns : “Stop scaring the nation”

Amit Segal presents Netanyahu’s votes regarding disengagement: He resigned the finance ministry and voted against the project, stating his concerns of a possible Hamas offensive “We are not reinforcing the Western Negev, Ashkelon and Ashdod for nothing.”

There is no right wing in the Israeli politics. Likud is regular left, those to the left of Likud are suicidal left, only Ben Gvir is a centrist.

I think what happened in the past is a mute point. As MYA pointed out there were definitely times when Bibi was too soft on Hamas. But whats important is that people learn from their mistakes. Even if in 2005 it was thought that giving back the phllidelphia corridor made sense, or that strengthening hamas at the expense of the PA made sense, now its no longer the case. The same with prisoner exchanges. I am no fan of Bibi. But I think Oct 7 has knocked his arrogance and he has learned from his mistakes.

BB BS. During the interim 20 years, he released Sinwar and arranged for hundreds of millions of financing for Hamas.
