NEW YORK – Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz faced backlash on social media after visiting the Manhattan apartment of Alex Soros, son of billionaire philanthropist George Soros.

“Honored to host Governor @Tim_Walz at my home in New York City!” Alex Soros, who now leads the multibillion-dollar Open Society Foundations, posted on X (formerly Twitter) alongside photos of Walz with the New York skyline in the background.
The post drew criticism from conservative commentators, who argued that Walz’s image as a moderate with rural roots was undermined by his association with one of the most influential progressive families in the U.S.
“All you need to know……” Fox News host Laura Ingraham remarked on X.
Vivek Ramaswamy, former GOP presidential candidate, added, “If you squint, you can see the strings on the marionette,” referencing the perceived influence of the Soros family.
Journalist Jerry Dunleavy questioned the wisdom of the post, suggesting it could harm the Harris-Walz campaign by highlighting Soros’ influence: “So why would Soros post something like this? To publicly signal his power & influence within the next would-be presidential administration.”
At a Harris-Walz campaign event in Pennsylvania, Walz’s public image continued to be scrutinized. Conservative figures on social media mocked the contrast between his portrayal as a down-to-earth, small-town politician and his meeting with Alex Soros.
“Real working man’s salt of the earth aesthetic for ol’ Walzy,” Daily Caller editor-in-chief Geoffrey Ingersoll quipped on X, while digital strategist Greg Price wrote, “This guy goes around saying he’s a small-town Midwestern guy who understands the middle class, and then goes to hang out in the penthouse of the world’s biggest billionaire nepo baby.”
This is not the first time Walz has been seen with Alex Soros. In August, photos circulated from a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event in Chicago showing Walz alongside Soros, his fiancée Huma Abedin, and others.
The social media reaction highlights the tensions surrounding Walz’s campaign and the perception of his alliances.

Alex is 38, Huma is 48. This doesn’t look like a normal marriage but rather a power move.
