WASHINGTN – Federal data released on Friday reveals that over 15,000 illegal immigrants living in the U.S. are either convicted or accused of homicide. The release coincided with Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to the southern border, where she addressed criticisms of her handling of the immigration crisis.

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) shared the information from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as Harris made her second border visit since being appointed to lead efforts on reducing illegal immigration. According to ICE data as of July 21, 2024, there are 662,566 noncitizens with criminal records on the agency’s national docket, including 13,099 convicted murderers. “Americans deserve to be SAFE in our own communities,” Gonzales tweeted, criticizing Harris’ performance.

The data did not specify how many of these individuals entered the U.S. during Harris’ tenure as “border czar,” during which illegal border crossings surged to record levels over three consecutive years. Under the Biden-Harris administration, many illegal immigrants have been released into the U.S. to await delayed asylum proceedings after the administration ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy from the Trump era.

ICE reported that 277 convicted murderers and 51 individuals facing murder charges are currently detained, while 13,099 convicted of homicide and 1,845 accused of the crime remain at large in the U.S. The data also highlighted other crimes, including sexual assault and physical assault, with many convicted or accused individuals residing in “sanctuary” states and cities that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

The release of these figures triggered criticism of Harris, especially as immigration is seen as a vulnerable point for her in a tight race against Republican candidate Donald Trump. Former ICE official John Fabbricatore slammed the administration’s immigration policies, accusing them of releasing dangerous criminals instead of deporting them. Trump himself took to social media to criticize Harris, pointing to her delayed border visit and questioning the timing of the data release.

No no no. Charlie scolded us that these immigrants are NOT illegal. They have every right to rob, rape, and murder you.
