Minneapolis (VINnews)-Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is reportedly feeling the pressure ahead of his highly anticipated debate with Ohio Senator JD Vance. According to CNN, Walz has been candid with his inner circle, admitting he’s “nervous” about the upcoming showdown. Campaign insiders say Walz has been participating in extensive preparation sessions, some of which have gone late into the night. To help him prepare, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been stepping in as Vance during mock debates.

Despite the rigorous prep, Walz has expressed concerns that he might not meet expectations. Sources within his campaign say the governor is particularly worried about disappointing Vice President Kamala Harris, who is said to have high hopes for his debate performance. During an interview with Harris, when Walz was considered for the vice-presidential spot, he reportedly warned her that he wasn’t a skilled debater. According to the CNN report, Walz now claims he feels “maybe more nervous” about this debate than he did during that critical interview.
The Walz campaign is doing what it can to help him manage his stress, with one insider noting that keeping him in a positive “headspace” has become a priority. Having Buttigieg, a seasoned debater, play the role of Vance is one of the key strategies his team hopes will sharpen Walz’s performance.
