Hagari said that Hezbollah had turned the villages in southern Lebanon into military bases which would enable them to carry out murderous attacks similar to October 7 in the northern Galilee. In 2006 both Lebanon and Israel signed on UN resolution 1701 which stated that no military elements besides the Lebanese army and UNIFIL could be present in southern Lebanon. Despite this, Hezbollah built up bases and strongholds and amassed weaponry in the region, becoming the largest non-state army in the world. Southern Lebanon “is swarming with terrorists and weapons.”
Hagari stressed that Israel’s war is not with Lebanon but with Hezbollah and Israel will take measures to protect Lebanese citizens, but added that “We will not let Oct. 7th happen again on any of our borders and will do whatever it takes so that Israeli families can return to their homes in safety and security.”

The terrible events of Oct 7 haven’t taught the Israelis any humility.
