In a recent update from Maricopa County, Arizona, officials reported that 27,000 mail-in ballots arrived with signatures that did not match voter records. Of these, 15,000 have been “cured,” meaning voters verified their identities to ensure their ballots could be counted. However, around 12,000 ballots remain unverified and, unless cured soon, will not be included in the final tally.

Arizona has seen significant growth in mail-in voting across party lines, making it a popular choice for voters seeking a secure and convenient voting method. The state’s stringent verification process, which includes signature matching, is in place to maintain the integrity of mail-in ballots. When a signature doesn’t match records, the ballot isn’t discarded outright; instead, voters are given a chance to “cure” or verify their identity to ensure that their vote counts.

The curing process allows voters with signature issues to confirm their identities through steps provided by the county. This method protects the legitimacy of ballots while also helping reduce the risk of fraud. However, ballots that remain uncured by the end of the deadline will not be counted, leaving 12,000 votes potentially uncounted unless voters act quickly.
