This is What Washington DC Looks Like Just Hours Away from Election Day

(VINnews) – In response to potential unrest surrounding Election Day, heightened security measures have been implemented around Washington, D.C., with particular focus on the White House and other key government buildings. Metal fencing and increased police presence are among the most visible signs of these precautions, which also extend to the residence of the vice president. Businesses in the area have proactively boarded up storefronts, preparing for any disturbances that may arise.

To secure the area, the Secret Service has installed 8-foot-high fences around the White House, along with other federal buildings, effectively creating a fortified zone around key locations. In tandem, local authorities have prepared for street closures and parking restrictions on election night, ensuring additional layers of protection.

Businesses located near government buildings and popular gathering spots have especially felt the need to reinforce their properties. This preemptive boarding, often coupled with additional security staffing, is aimed at safeguarding against any potential damage that could result from protests or gatherings that might turn volatile.

The decision to board up is reminiscent of measures seen during major events, such as the January 6 Capitol riot, which caused significant property damage in parts of Washington, D.C., and protests after the death of George Floyd in 2020, which saw similar actions nationwide. Local businesses learned from these experiences, preparing ahead of time to protect their investments while ensuring the safety of employees and patrons.

Can’t blame them. Both sides have dialed up the rhetoric, whipping their bases into a frenzy. The election will probably be razor-tight, and it may take days until there is a clear winner. There is no telling what kind of chaos could break out in the next few days. Hashem Yishmor.
