JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: Sergeant First Class Yonah Betzalel Brief, aged 23 from Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut, a combat medic in the Duvdevan commando unit, succumbed to his wounds over a year after he was critically injured on October 7th, 2023 during combat action in Kfar Aza near the Gaza strip.

Brief was hospitalized over the entire last year. On Monday his condition deteriorated and his family planned to make a public prayer service for his recovery at the Western Wall, but he passed away on Tuesday morning.
Brief, a graduate of the Eli pre-military academy, was seriously injured just five months before the Hamas attack during operations in Tulkarm in Samaria. After his rehabilitation he continued to serve in the Duvdevan commando unit. On the morning of Simchas Torah he rushed together with other members of the unit to Kfar Aza and took part in the fierce battles, suffering critical injuries.
The Bnei David instutions in Eli eulogized Yonah, stating that “The rabbis and students mourn the fall of a hero, Yonah Betzalel Brief HYD, who died after a year of fighting for his life after suffering critical injuries on Sinchas Torah 5784. The prayer rally which was planned for this evening will not take place. We offer condolences to his family.”
