Military Analyst: 3 Key Pressure Points Enabled Lebanon Agreement

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Despite the many voices in Israel who are expressing concern about the forthcoming ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, military analyst Avi Ashkenazi is optimistic about the ceasefire, stating that Hezbollah has been forced to accept the ceasefire due to its losing three strategic advantages in the last few months.

The IDF’s ground offensive which started two months ago was accompanied by aerial attacks on all of Hezbollah’s supply lines in Syria, as well as its infrastructure supporting the Assad regime. Hundreds of its terrorist operatives were killed there and the IAF also targeted the border between Syria and Lebanon and the 4400 unit responsible for smuggling weapons into Lebanon. The IDF destroyed tunnels, warehouses and command centers, cutting off any possibility of rearmament.

Additionally, the IDF targeted Beirut with massive attacks, specifically the Dahia neighborhood in which the IDF attacked 280 targets and 50 in other neighborhoods. The IDF says that 90% of Hezbollah’s warehouses and arms factories in the neighborhood have been destroyed. “Every second house was a stockpile of weaponry or a factory manufacturing rockets and advanced weapons,” an IDF official said.

The third pressure point on Hezbollah was Israel’s aerial superiority in all of Lebanon. The fact that the IAF could freely fly over Lebanon enabled it to hunt down the leaders of Hezbollah, causing all of its commanders to feel threatened and hunted at all times.

These points, coupled with the major ground achievements in the southern sector, enabled Israel to force Hezbollah to request a ceasefire.

Analyst Yossi Yehoshua added that the simple truth is that “we have defeated the most dangerous foe on our borders. There may be dispute about the conditions of the agreement, but nobody could have believed that this would be the state of affairs betwen Israel and the Hezbollah, and most of the IDF general staff believed that we should not enter Lebanon at all.”

It’s always easier for us to have someone else fight their wars the way we see fit, from our rocking chair in front of the computer, whilst munching on some goodies with drink in hand, but it’s the ones, as young as in their twenties, who have just begun their adult life, who are the ones fighting this bitter war and dying at such a young age.
