Trump Weighs DeSantis as Potential Pentagon Pick Amid Hegseth Scrutiny: WSJ

WASHINGTON – President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a potential replacement for Pete Hegseth, his nominee for Secretary of Defense, according to The Wall Street Journal. This comes amid growing concerns from Republican senators over personal allegations involving Hegseth, a former Fox News host.

If Trump were to choose DeSantis, it would represent a significant shift, given their rivalry during the 2024 GOP primary. However, DeSantis’ conservative credentials and military background align with Trump and Hegseth’s stance on opposing what they describe as “woke” military policies.

Insiders close to Trump’s transition team believe that Hegseth’s nomination faces critical scrutiny in the coming days, potentially prompting the search for alternatives. DeSantis, who was initially on a shortlist of defense secretary candidates before Hegseth was selected, has re-emerged as a serious contender should Hegseth’s nomination falter.

Although DeSantis remains one of several options, Trump has yet to make a final decision, The Wall Street Journal reports. The evolving situation highlights the complex relationship between the two leaders, who were once political allies but became rivals when DeSantis challenged Trump in the 2024 primary. Despite the tensions, Trump secured the nomination, and efforts to reconcile the two have been ongoing.

Both Trump and DeSantis recently attended a memorial service for fallen law enforcement officers in Palm Beach County, Florida. Discussions about DeSantis’ potential role have reportedly taken place in recent days, though a spokesperson for DeSantis has not commented on the matter.

I would argue that, at this point in time, being a governor of Florida for two more years has more political weight than being a secretary of defense, not to lessen the importance of the secretary of defense position. Besides, DeSantis really shines at not being afraid of applying the existing laws to their full capacity, and at turning the tables on the Dem establishment. The very LEAST usage of DeSantis’ talents would be to lead the department of justice which would allow him to throw RICO charges at all the DC rats, riots’ financiers, Soros’ DA’s and the Wall Street woke CEO’s who clearly neglect their fiduciary responsibilities. Better yet, he should complete his governorship, then concentrate the next two years on winning the 2028 presidential election.

DeSantis is a veteran with a proven record of executive leadership in a massive organization (the State of Florida). He seems also to be a family man with a good marriage. (though you never rally know).
Hegseth does not really have any proven executive experience, and also has very little self-control in his personal life, which makes him susceptible to blackmail, and female foreign spies.
Seems like a no-brainer.

Hegseth own mother says he’s unfit. Vet orgs and non-profits ejected him for drunkeness. This is on the record. Pres Trump needs a sober guy as Sec of Defense.

Democrats are going after Hegseth unfairly, but Hegseth is clearly a sleazy, immoral character in his personal life, even if he has not done exactly what they are accusing him of.
DeSantis would be amazing in the role.
