JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Israel Air Force carried out a series of targeted strikes in Syria on Sunday, particularly on the al-Mazzeh military base in Damascus and Khalkhalah in the southern al-Suweida part of the country. Attacks were also reported in rural areas of Daraa. According to Syrian sources, the targets included weapon depots, air defense batteries and missile manufacturing facilities.

In the night between Saturday and Sunday, air raids attributed to Israel were carried out around Damascus, targeting sophisticated weapons and military installations. A chemical weapons depot was also reportedly destroyed. On Sunday night, the raids continued, targeting air force bases. Tens of MIG-29 planes were allegedly destroyed in these attacks.

Footage posted Sunday on social media purported to show large Israeli airstrikes targeting the al-Mezzah airbase. The videos showed heavy bombardment of the airbase.

Later, Israel conducted another wave of at least three airstrikes in the Syrian capital, targeting a security complex and a government research center, according to a Reuters report.

Those strikes caused extensive damage to the main customs headquarters and buildings adjoining the military intelligence offices within the security complex, in the Kafr Sousa district of Damascus, the sources said, where Israel previously said Iranian scientists were developing missiles.

The research facility was also damaged, a source said.

The stated goal of the attacks is to maintain Israel’s superior defense capabilities as the political uncertainty in Syria may lead to terrorist elements controlling Syria’s weaponry and directing it against Israel. However and additional benefit is that the weapons will not be used against the Kurds, who are Israel’s allies in the region and who have requested help from Israel to maintain their positions in Eastern Syria, as they are already under attack from rebel elements.

Way to go unlike the mentally challenged former president that left tens of billions of dollars worth of offensive weapons when he retreated from a now idol controlled country.
But then again they may have inadvertently helped those that over threw Assad by limiting Syria’s military from taking action against the rebels
