JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Defense Minister Yisrael Katz warned on Wednesday that Israel is “on the verge of war” in Judea and Samaria. Katz spoke during a meeting with settlement leaders from the region in the wake of the fatal terrorist shooting in the village of Funduq, located on the main 55 highway connecting the communities in Samaria.

The shooting left three people dead and seven injured and highlighted the growing threat of terrorism in the region.
Katz told the settlement leaders that the initial plans for Oct. 7th had included infiltrating communities in Judea and Samaria. He emphasized that the IDF is prepared and ready for a full-scale conflict and outlined security measures taken by the military to counteract rising violence. These measures include the operations in Jenin and other Arab towns, preventative actions, and increased traffic enforcement. The Defense Minister highlighted the growing involvement of both the Iranian axis and the radical Sunni Islam groups in fueling terrorism in Judea and Samaria, pointing to arms smuggling, financial support, and strategic guidance from these factions.
Katz made it clear that Judea and Samaria have become central to Israel’s security challenges. “We are seeing steadily growing threats to Judea and Samaria from the Iranian axis,” he stated. “This region has become a focal point for efforts to foster Palestinian terror through external support, following the chaos in Syria.”
Regional leaders, including Yisrael Gantz, the chairman of the Yesha council, expressed their grave concerns about the situation, noting that the region cannot be treated as a secondary issue in Israel’s security strategy. Ganz stressed that over half a million Israelis living in the area are at risk, calling for a shift in strategy to decisively address the rising terror threat.
“We must change previous perceptions and strategy to eliminate terror in the West Bank,” Gantz asserted. “Iran has established a foothold here, and the threat has reached a critical point.” Katz reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to protecting its citizens, emphasizing that the IDF is the sole guarantor of security and that the government will continue to act forcefully against terrorism in all regions.
There needs to be a change in strategy just declaring war won’t solve anything obviously
If the government knew on October 6th what would happen the day…..that’s how the “West Bank” should be treated right now.
