Agam’s mother Meirav had prayed that her daughter’s release not cause desecration of the Shabbat, and she was indeed released on a weekday as opposed to the previous phase of the release on Shabbat which included four of her friends from the surveillance unit.
Agam herself kept Shabbat and did not eat meat during her days in captivity because it was not kosher, according to Liri Elbag, the surveillance soldier who was with her. She told Agam’s mother Meirav that “You and your daughter made exactly the same [spiritual] journey from opposite sides of the fence.” Liri also told Meirav that Agam had been pale in recent times because she had refrained from eating many foods.
