NEW YORK (VINnews) — American professional boxer, social media influencer and actor Jake Paul has revealed discovering that his mother’s mother is Jewish, making him technically a Jew. The 28-year-old Paul decided to don Tefillin and celebrate an impromptu “Bar-Mitzva.”

Paul, who launched a Youtube channel in 2014 and is now one of the highest paid Youtube creators in recent years, has also had a successful career as a boxer, even defeating beat all-time boxing great Mike Tyson live on Netflix in a highly anticipated fight last November at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Paul’s Jewish roots were revealed by his older brother Logan, also a media influencer. Logan introduced his viewers to his mother Pamela in 2016, and she offered up a fact she said his viewers likely wouldn’t know: “You have a little bit of Jew in you,” she told the elder Paul brother, eliciting surprise from her son.
Paul’s mother explained that “Grammy was a Buxbaum and her dad was a Buxbaum.”
A search of genealogical records appears to explain that Jake and Logan’s great-grandmother, who Pamela refers to as “Grammy,” was Lillian Mae Meredith (Buxbaum), and her father was Isidore “Harry” Buxbaum, who immigrated in the 19th century from Germany and settled in Massachusets.
