NEW YORK – The NY Post reports that at least three of Mayor Eric Adams’ deputy mayors are considering resigning following the Justice Department’s controversial decision to drop the mayor’s historic corruption case. The three officials—First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres Springer, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, and Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams Isom—allegedly expressed their desire to leave the administration last week. A fourth deputy mayor, Chauncey Parker, who oversees public safety, is also said to be contemplating resignation.

According to sources, the group participated in a Zoom meeting with Mayor Adams on Sunday to discuss their potential exits, with some aides planning to depart as early as next month. During the meeting, Adams is reported to have tried to convince them to delay or keep quiet about their intentions to resign, as public calls for the mayor’s resignation increased in light of the DOJ’s handling of his case.
The Justice Department’s motion to dismiss the corruption case against Adams, filed late last Friday, has sparked a wave of resignations within the administration. The dismissal, which could allow the case to be revived at a later time, cited concerns over politically motivated prosecution. The DOJ’s actions have stirred frustration and uncertainty within Adams’ team, further escalating tensions surrounding the case.
City Hall has not yet confirmed whether Adams succeeded in persuading his deputy mayors to stay on, with a spokesperson stating that any personnel announcements will be made when appropriate.
