CALIFORNIA (VINnews)-Alef Aeronautics, a California-based aviation tech startup, has made history by releasing footage of its electric car successfully “jumping” over another vehicle on a road in California. The company claims that this marks the first-ever test of a car driving and vertically taking off in a real-world city environment.

In a bold attempt to solve urban traffic woes, Alef Aeronautics envisions a future where cars can simply fly over congested roads, turning the long dream of flying cars into reality. CEO Jim Dukhovny compared this groundbreaking moment to the Wright Brothers’ historic flight at Kitty Hawk, emphasizing its potential to transform the way people think about transportation.
“This drive and flight test represents an important proof of technology in a real-world city environment,” Dukhovny said. “We hope it will be a moment similar to the Wright Brothers’ Kitty Hawk video, proving to humanity that new transportation is possible.”
The flying car, designed with both mobility and urban functionality in mind, operates using four rotors in the front and four in the rear, enabling vertical takeoff and landing. However, it currently has limited road performance, reaching a top speed of just 25 miles per hour. Despite this limitation, the futuristic technology has already attracted significant interest, with over 3,000 preorders from early adopters eager to invest in the cutting-edge vehicle.
Priced at $300,000 each, Alef Aeronautics’ flying car aims to be a luxury solution to urban gridlock and could lead the charge in developing the next generation of personal transportation. While the technology is still in its infancy, this test marks a significant milestone in the company’s goal to revolutionize the future of city travel.
As the company continues its development and testing, the dream of flying cars—once limited to science fiction—now feels closer to becoming part of everyday life.
AI video has gotten so real looking, it’s hard to tell whether a video is fake. Either way, what shows on the video looks like a air crash nightmare waiting to happen.
It looks like a gimmick meant to fool investors into pouring money into the company.
Definitely looks like retro style from The Jetsons
