JERUSALEM (VINnews) — After about a year and a half of various efforts and measures to bring back the hostages from Hamas captivity — alongside a wide range of threats — Israel is now trying a different approach.

According to a report Tuesday evening by Amit Segal on Channel 12 News, Israel is threatening Hamas that any harm to a hostage will lead to the annexation of part of Gaza to Israel.
The report states that if Israel learns that an Israeli hostage has been harmed in captivity, it will officially declare the annexation of territory in Gaza. From Israel’s perspective, Hamas holds full responsibility for the hostages’ safety, having held them for 529 days.
The Israeli threat is based on the assumption that losing territory is the most severe consequence for Hamas and Gaza residents, even more than the loss of lives.
Additionally, it was reported that Israel will not settle for less than the Wittkoff plan, which includes the release of half of the living and deceased hostages in exchange for an extension of the ceasefire until after Passover and Ramadan. Alternatively, fewer hostages released would mean fewer days of ceasefire. Under this plan, half of the hostages — both living and deceased — would be released on the first day of the agreement.
Regarding the concern that resuming the war could endanger the hostages, it was reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security discussion before the surprise attack to decide on the matter. Security officials warned that the operation could endanger the hostages but ultimately supported it because negotiations had reached a deadlock.
The plan, currently being carried out by the Air Force in Gaza, was developed by the IDF over the past few weeks — and incoming Chief of Staff Zamir was also involved. The plan involves escalating stages, which may intensify further. Israel will evaluate the situation periodically and attempt to secure a deal during the ongoing operation.
Security sources say Israel has effectively returned to negotiating under fire. If this fails, the operation will expand. The assessment is that if this move doesn’t lead to the hostages’ release, Israel will intensify the attack even more.
Annexing land??? Where was this plan on October 8, or any time since then? How about start annexing for everyone Israeli killed on October 7, every hostage taken, every soldier killed and wounded, every citizen killed or wounded in a terrorist attack, etc. Time to follow thru on the threat
