JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In recent days, key agreements have been reached between the Rebbe of Gur and Lithuanian Torah leaders — Rabbi Dov Landau and Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch — to form a united stance on the yeshiva students’ draft law.

As part of the new agreement, the United Torah Judaism party supported the state budget, but also issued an ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: the draft law must pass by Shavuot — otherwise, the entire faction will resign from the coalition as a unified bloc.
Key points from the agreement:
1) Budget support with a deadline:
The faction will approve the budget before the draft law is finalized, but demand the law’s passage by Shavuot. If it fails, the entire faction will withdraw from the coalition.
2) Summit meeting planned:
A summit meeting is scheduled for next Sunday in Bnei Brak, involving the Rebbe of Gur, Rabbi Dov Landau, and Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch. They are expected to draft a joint letter to Netanyahu, personally signed by these leading rabbis, highlighting the seriousness of the move.
3) Goldknopf holds back for now:
Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf, who previously threatened to oppose the budget if the draft law didn’t pass, will not resign. He will support the budget and wait for the new deadline, working alongside the rest of the faction.
4) Reaching out to Shas:
United Torah Judaism has approached Shas, seeking to form a joint ultimatum. If Shas joins, this could create a wider charedi front, posing a serious challenge to the coalition.
5) Concerns over the draft law:
In a meeting earlier this week between Rabbi Nehemiah Alter (the Rebbe of Gur’s son) and Rabbi Dov Landau, Rav Landau expressed concerns over the proposed draft law — particularly the personal sanctions and the 50% recruitment requirement.
This new charedi unity agreement emerges amid shifting political circumstances, especially after MK Itamar Ben Gvir and his party rejoined the government. This move weakened Goldknopf’s previous threats, as the budget now had a majority even without United Torah Judaism’s votes.
glad they remain in the government, that is for now.
Why isn’t there TERM LIMITS in Israel?! Why must we see the same faces running/ruining the place forever and ever?!
Every Yid has value and should be respected. If we don’t love and respect each other, how can we expect the rest of the world to do the same? Division is only aiding and abetting the enemy. We need to be one people! Can you not see that Torah learning protects us all? Those yeshiva bochurs have their job and their dedication to Torah is an advantage for you and for me.
people that do not fulfill their obligations to a civilized society should not even have a vote, let alone be entitled to benefits! It;s only a matter of time until the Chareidim bring down the country. Supporting an ever growing number of societal deadweights (not even considering the disproportionate nenefits they receive through political blackmail) is just unsustainable
The PM must be able to form a government without these Chareidim. They want their children and grand children to be exempt from joining the army, while expecting to get Money and more money from the government.
Just saw that Rabbi Dov Landau is part of the coalition advisory. I believe he said a few weeks ago that he wished to live in an Arab run country because they have lots of money. So why is he staying?
