NEW YORK – A Brooklyn man was struck and killed by an e-bike while crossing the street in Greenpoint on Friday night, police said.

Luis Cruz, 49, was hit while walking across Franklin Street near Green Street around 7:45 p.m., according to the NYPD. The impact caused severe head trauma, and Cruz was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.
The e-bike rider remained at the scene, and police have not filed charges. Authorities said no criminality is suspected.
The fatal crash comes amid growing concerns over e-bike safety in New York City. With the increasing popularity of electric bicycles, officials have faced pressure to address reckless riding and enforcement.
Franklin Street was closed for several hours as police investigated the incident.
