Chicago Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Vandalizing Elderly Jewish Man’s Car, Yet Faces No Disciplinary Action

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (VINnews)- In an incident first reported by the Daily Wire a Chicago police officer, Mohammed Khan, 35, has pleaded guilty to vandalizing the car of a 77-year-old Jewish man, Rabbi Abraham Wineberg, but has yet to face any disciplinary action from the Chicago Police Department, according to the victim’s family. The incident, which took place in the early hours of March 3, 2024, in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood, has raised concerns from the family, who believe the act may have been motivated by antisemitism.

Rabbi Wineberg, who was visiting his granddaughter and great-grandchildren at the time, had parked his vehicle in a private handicapped parking spot designated for a member of Khan’s family. Surveillance footage captured Khan, who was off duty and driving his personal vehicle, issuing a parking ticket to Wineberg’s car around 2:30 a.m. Moments later, Khan was seen breaking off the vehicle’s side mirrors, an act of vandalism that led to his arrest last March.

The Wineberg family has expressed frustration over the lack of disciplinary measures against Khan, a serving police officer, despite his guilty plea. They argue that the targeting of Rabbi Wineberg’s car may have been influenced by his Jewish identity, pointing to the incident as a possible hate crime. “We’re deeply troubled that an officer sworn to protect the community could commit such an act and still face no consequences from his department,” a family spokesperson said.

Khan’s actions have sparked debate about accountability within the police force, particularly given the nature of the crime and the victim’s age and religious background. The Chicago Police Department has not yet released a statement regarding potential disciplinary actions, leaving the Wineberg family and community members awaiting further developments.

The case remains under scrutiny as questions linger about whether justice will be fully served for Rabbi Wineberg, who was simply visiting loved ones when his property was damaged.

Cop committed the crime at 2 30am so after midnight on Sunday. If illegally parked, it should have been reported & the car would’ve been ticketed /towed. He’s a vandal & should lose his job.

If this happened at 2:30 AM, unless there were some identifying marks in or around the car, how would he have known that the car was owned by a Jew? More likely he was frustrated with somebody taking his parking spot. Not an excuse, however there are plenty of antisemitic incidents that are provable.crying wolf, where there is none makes a mockery of true antisemitism.

I never heard of a “private handicapped spot” with on street parking. The only private parking i am aware of is if you have your own driveway.

He’s a liability for the CPD, and by CPD’s NON-ACTION in disciplining this admittededly guilty CPD offender, it places the entire CPD as a liability.

My own question is, did the car that was parked in the spot have handicapped tags? If it didn’t, then it should have been there. It doesn’t make a difference “whose spot it is, that’s supposed to be there.

The BIGGER question is, If the police officer damaged the car that was there, why does this cop still have a job? He should not have a job with the police department. I don’t care if this was anti-Semitic or not anti-Semitic. That’s not something a cop should do and the cop should be fired immediately. He should be fired and never allowed to work in please business again. He’s a piece of garbage.
