MIAMI – Shoppers at a North Miami Beach kosher market are bracing for higher prices as new tariffs take effect under President Donald Trump’s economic policies.

Sam Salem, owner of Yes! Kosher Market, says he will have to raise prices by as much as 25% due to the 10% tariff imposed on imported goods. The impact is especially severe for his store, where about half of the products come from international suppliers.
“I think more of a panic right now from what people are thinking is going to happen and how much things are going to cost is what is making people nervous,” Salem said.
The tariffs, which target a broad range of imports—including groceries, clothing, electronics, and even lumber—are part of Trump’s effort to push manufacturing back to the U.S. But business owners like Salem warn that consumers will bear the brunt of the added costs.
Jose Alvarez, who runs Shell Lumber and Hardware in Hialeah, echoed similar concerns. “The margins aren’t like your retail fashion store, these are very tight margins. If it goes up 5% for me, it goes up 5% for the end user as well,” he said.
While Trump insists the tariffs will strengthen the economy, many economists predict they will drive up costs for American families and slow down growth. For South Florida’s kosher shoppers, the effects are already hitting home.
Why is he raising prices 25% if the tariffs is 10% on his imported goods? How does that math work? And maybe it’s time to source items in-country.
Nothing

Excuses to raise prices
I DONT GET trump, HE NOW EXPECTS Americans TO WORK HARD LABOR LIKE THE Chinese AND VIETNAMESE 14 hours a day making underwear sneakers and pants? cmon we cant doing that its not 1930s I rather get ripped off lol.Trump never worked hard , inherited father real estate empire , worked the nite life casino party hard who he fooling, Americans are never gona work that hard and sleep with 14 roommates, which community does he expect to do this hard labor? hasidim? african americans? or MIGRANTS MAYBE LOL
South Florida desperately needs a Colel type store with a few centrally located spots or a warehouse style that operates on delivery only with reasonable prices. Most kosher items are 75% greater than NY which does not justify the “extra shipping charge” The prices are predatory and the store owners raking in millions of the backs of middle class families.
How is he not ashamed to say this?? He is the poster child for frum businesses who just rip us off and have no bushah about it. Trying to justify his theft by blaming Trump. Where are the Rabbonim to speak out about this?
Thank you Hashem for showing us Trump is not perfect. We get the good with the bad …and must daven just as hard for the Geulah – bkarov!
South Florida community warns greedy businesses they will be boycotted if they engage in shyster practices.
South Florida is already the most expensive place to shop kosher. I don’t know how people could handle more but I guess if you’re rich what’s the difference
‘Tariffs’ are just another excuse to start gouging customers. The tariffs haven’t even started yet.
What do I know ? The tariffs went into effect 2 days ago, and a day later the price on the merchandise that he for sure has stocked , jumps ? Seriously ?
His new kitchen ain’t gonna buy itself
Greed wins. Buy American products
That have good hechshors on them
Let Canada and Europe eat their product it start trading on an even basis
Nothing happens this fast, however the idea is to raise prices right away to do 2 things.
1. Asses the strength of sales once product prices increase, to be able know how much to reorder
2. Settings the new prices, since that is what it will cost in the future for the reordering of products.
But the idea that suddenly the prices skyrocket….thats arbitrary for the most part….but businesses will naturally do this
He is just using trump as a reason to raise prices
Mr Trump has made a terrible blunder with the way he rolled out the tariffs.
The stock market is tanking, businesses are at a standstill, & economists are predicting a 60% chance of a recession this year. Of course we should negotiate the unfair tariff practices of other countries, but you don’t harm the millions of small businesses relying on imported goods to do so. Much of what we import is not worthwhile to produce in this country. The Frum community is reeling from this policy because so many of us import from other countries to run our businesses.
We need big Rachmei Shomayim.
Let this guy raise his prices. Instead of complaining, how about people get their act together and start living more simplistic lives. Stop buying over priced fancy gourmet foods. Cut down on what you buy, the store owner will soon get the message and adjust his prices and what he sells accordingly
Has lots of spoiled and expired products they also have a very limited selection
Since Trump is such an Ohev Yisroel & best friend Yidden have ever had I’m sure our “Askanim” can get Trump to exempt Kosher stores from the tariffs.
