JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Recently, the Hamas terrorist organization released several videos all depicting the same image — terrorists lying in wait for IDF forces, emerging from tunnel shafts, blending into dense fields, and opening fire on troops in the area. In response, the Israeli army has decided on an original solution: clearing and burning all agricultural areas adjacent to the Gaza border in order to expose the surroundings.

The operation, which began in recent days, is carried out as follows: burning the agricultural lands in the northern Gaza Strip and locating tunnel shafts, explosives, and even terrorists in the exposed terrain. The area in question spans thousands of dunams, and the objective is to scan it, including with the help of drones.
During the course of the operation, several tunnel shafts have already been located. One of them contained various weapons and intelligence materials. An IDF official said that one of the goals of the operation is to ensure the security of residents in the surrounding Israeli communities by clearing out the areas hidden in the thickets. “Clearing the area allows us to see much better — through drones and other effective means — the terrorists and their weapons,” the official said.
The operation was launched following several fatal encounters in the Gaza Strip in the past week. In the first month of Operation “Iron Swords,” which began after the ceasefire collapsed and Hamas rejected the framework proposed by Israel, there were no significant encounters or “face-to-face” battles between troops and terrorists. However, in recent days, several clashes have resulted in casualties and fatalities. Last Friday, Yamam officer Neta Yitzhak Kahane and Captain Ido Wallach were killed in terrorist ambushes in Shuja’iyya and in Rafah. During a complex, two-hour-long rescue operation, five anti-tank and RPG missiles were fired at the soldiers.
Why burn the Jewish agricultural land? Why not create a mile deep razorwire and mines no-go zone on the gazan side of the border?
