CALIFORNIA – Rabbi Pinny Dunner, a prominent Orthodox Jewish Rabbi from California, and vocal supporter of Donald Trump in the 2024 election, issued a blistering rebuke of the president Tuesday over reports that Trump accepted a private Boeing 747 from a controversial Qatari royal.

In a fiery post on X, Dunner blasted the gift — reportedly from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani (HBJ), Qatar’s former prime minister — calling HBJ a “billionaire thug,” a “Hamas godfather,” and a “Jew-hater” with “blood on his hands.”

“This isn’t a Qatari state jet. It’s the personal plane of HBJ — a man who harbored 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, bankrolls Hamas in Doha’s five-star hotels, and funds $30 million a month in terror payments,” Dunner wrote.
Dunner, who has led protests outside HBJ-owned properties in Beverly Hills since October 7, added that the plane, bearing tail number P4-HBJ, had failed to sell on the private market and is now being used as a political pawn.
“From harboring terrorists to bribing presidents. Disgusting,” he declared.
The post stands in stark contrast to Dunner’s staunch endorsement of Trump during the 2024 campaign, where he praised the president’s pro-Israel record. But in this case, Dunner suggested Trump had crossed a moral line.
“You can’t take a gift from the man funding the murder of Jews,” he said, warning that friendship with Israel cannot come at the cost of embracing its enemies.
Trump has not responded directly to the criticism. Legal experts have raised questions about the gift’s implications under the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause. A final approval of the jet transfer has not yet been confirmed.

In Qatar, as in any monarchy, there is no difference between “the state” and the monarch himself. The entire country is his personal property.
That said, the Qatari royal family bought three of these VIP 747s and realized they have way more lift capacity than they can use. Maintaining an idle plane is costly so they have been trying to sell this one for the past 17 months. Nobody has been interested in buying or leasing. So Doha has a spare plane they want to offload, the USAF needs a younger craft to replace the aging AF-1 jets. It looks like they worked out a deal.

I said it the first week Trump was president he is running this country like a business and he is the CEO. Trump will do what he feels is necessary for his companies bottom line. You may disagree with him but it doesn’t change the fact that he has been a strong supporter of Israel until now. I don’t think this changed at all. He is just putting America first. Don’t care what some foolish local rabbi said in ‘24 or what he says now. Trump will hopefully run the country by putting America first. If that means he partially turns his back on Israel, so be it. His job is to run America, not back Israel.
