The talks — involving the president, prime minister and parliamentary speaker — aim to explore the activation of Starlink’s satellite internet service across Lebanon. The visit is being seen not just as a technical upgrade, but also as a politically charged development.
Unlike traditional internet systems, Starlink’s satellite-based service requires no ground network or fiber-optic cables, offering a reliable, high-speed connection that could reinforce Lebanon’s fragile infrastructure.
Negotiations with Starlink began prior to the recent war. However, the process stalled amid concerns raised by ministers aligned with Hezbollah, who cited national security risks associated with satellite internet access.
Now, with the war over and reconstruction efforts underway, officials face a critical question: Will Lebanon finally approve the internet connectivity it urgently needs?
Starlink has already launched services in multiple countries facing infrastructure challenges, positioning itself as a tool for post-conflict recovery and economic revitalization.
Lebanon, which continues to suffer from rolling blackouts and inconsistent internet access, could benefit significantly — if political consensus can be reached.
