BROOKLYN – Governor Kathy Hochul announced the start of a $36.9 million project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Fort Hamilton Parkway over the Gowanus Expressway (I-278). The work includes replacing the bridge deck, upgrading structural elements, improving lighting, and adding a protected bike lane to enhance safety and connectivity between Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Windsor Terrace.

Built in 1964, the bridge will gain at least 40 more years of service life. Construction will occur in phases with lane closures and traffic shifts, and is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
Leaders including Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, as well as local Council Members Brannan and Aviles, praised the project for promoting safety, accessibility, and economic development. Community Board 10 welcomed the long-awaited investment.
The project is supported in part by federal infrastructure funding.

Could anyone tell me where in the world this bridge is? I live in Boro Park and take Ft Hamilton Parkway to the Gowanus to go to Manhattan every day. Fort Hamilton Parkway never passes over the Gowanus.
I bet the final cost will be ten times over the estimate.
$39.6m ….a lot of $$$ for such a small distance !!! Maybe they could build some housing for “middle income people who can’t afford the exorbitant prices to rent a 3 bedroom apt !!! Yeah right !!!!
More traffic for the next ten years or so.
Eventually the corrupt City Council will charge a toll/congestion pricing to drive on this stupid road.
“the bridge carrying Fort Hamilton Parkway over the Gowanus Expressway”
Where does Fort Hamilton go over the Gowanus? Isnt it the other way around?
Pardon my ignorance, I moved out of the city over a decade ago
No way itll be that “cheap” it costs literakky $1 million per 5 yards
I’m assuming they mean Hamilton Ave. Fort Hamilton Pkwy doesn’t go near the Gowanus
I shared the same question as many other posts here.
After a little research it seems that this is the Gowanus Expressway at 81st Street where Fort Hamilton crosses over the Gowanus.
This is the problem with just cutting and pasting (that’s you VIN) an article from another poor source, rather than knowing what your reporting, and reporting it clearly, as journalism is supposed to be.
Thanks for the terrible news for all of the Euro Jewish Latino Asian Hipster peeps of Sunset / Boro Park / Bay Ridge
How much money are all the politicians involved pocketing. I don’t see how it will help Boro Park? Bike Lanes make roads narrower and more dangerous.
According to what The Truth posted, this is even crazier. We are talking about a stretch of Ft Hamilton Parkway that is about half a block long.
They want to spend $37,000,000 on half a block? And they even proudly put out a press release!
Do they think that the public is stupid? Yes. And they know they’ll get away with it. Someone is making a lot of money and doesn’t give a darn of what anyone thinks.
Why not prioritize the rehabilitation of stack highway that caused tremendous traffic all day long in BQE express way. This horrendous bottleneck slow the economy and the productivity of thousands motorists passing this road all day.
I think the reporting here and the commentary here from numerous individuals may be wrong about the location. It might be. ( as according to the photo displayed with this news article ) this would be the Gowanus Bridge heading North that goes over Hamilton Ave and the Gowanus Canal in Red Hook neighborhood that leads to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel if you were to go straight or if you remain right IS THE the entry to the BQE Eastbound is in the photo left side is the Red Hook Housing Projects and the streets of Red Hook. I think because the word ” Hamilton ” was used with ” Fort ” pre faced people confused this with Fort Hamilton when it is not Fort Hamilton Bridge but is the Hamiltin Ave Bridge Overpass. I can provide a photo I took a few weeks ago of the same Red Hook House’s from that bridge when on express bus to Manhattan to prove it.
