NEW YORK – To honor what would have been Anne Frank’s 96th birthday, New York City has launched a summer campaign, “Summer of Reflection: The Legacy of Anne Frank,” distributing 10,000 free copies of The Diary of a Young Girl through public libraries and schools.

Sponsored by Bank of America and UJA-Federation of New York, the initiative aims to promote Holocaust education and fight antisemitism, particularly among young readers.

The campaign coincides with the extended run of Anne Frank The Exhibition at the Center for Jewish History, featuring the only full-scale recreation of the Secret Annex ever shown outside Amsterdam. Free admission will be offered on select Fridays for library cardholders across the city.

Leaders from the Anne Frank House, NYC Public Schools, and the city’s three library systems emphasized the diary’s enduring relevance in combating hate. UJA’s Eric Goldstein and Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos both stressed the importance of empowering youth to stand up to antisemitism.

Anne’s diary, saved by Miep Gies and published by her father Otto after the war, remains one of the most widely read testimonies of the Holocaust. Its message of hope and courage continues to inspire new generations.
