WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews) — The United States on Tuesday sharply criticized the decision by five allied nations — the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia — to impose sanctions on two members of Israel’s cabinet, calling the move counterproductive to ongoing efforts to end the war in Gaza.

“These sanctions do not advance U.S.-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war,” a U.S. official said in a statement. The administration emphasized its firm opposition to any suggestion of equivalence between Israel and Hamas. “Hamas is a terrorist organization that committed unspeakable atrocities, continues to hold innocent civilians hostage, and prevents the people of Gaza from living in peace. We remind our partners not to forget who the real enemy is.”

The U.S. called for an immediate reversal of the sanctions and reaffirmed its support for Israel, stating it “stands shoulder-to-shoulder” with its ally.
