The victim, Berl Brode, was crossing Avenue I near East 5th Street around 9:45 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Hatzolah paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate him, but he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.
Witnesses say Brode had been on his way to daven Maariv when the incident occurred.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. No criminality is suspected at this time.
Brode was a longtime and respected member of the Flatbush community, known for his quiet demeanor and consistent presence in shul.

sad, BD’E
He was my 4th grade Rebbe in Mir Yeshiva. A gem of a person. Never a bad word on anyone. Always upbeat and patient. He will be sorely missed!
Please update article to show that this is a cousin of the R’ Beryl Brody of the Mir.
I hope the driver was caught and didn’t have any prior violation An if you look at the intersection, there is no traffic light on East fifth but there is on Ocean Parkway and on East fourth there are a lot of problems with the timing of the traffic lights so that cars are permitted or encouraged to fly through the neighborhood
Someone should make sure the e 4 light is red when the ocean parkway light is green and vice versa or else this was the fault of the evil nypd and dot who are corrupt and want to punish
he was also a gabai of major nyc Shuls ? Had the keys
I don’t understand why these things happen to frummies
If the Abishter wants to take a Jew with some mad driver mowing them down, please take Dave smith, Jon Stewart, and their children. Take out their whole DNA lines but leave us the kind and honest Jews who contribute to us all.
